FUTURE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM
The Grand Rapids Crew Jrs. Dragons and Knights are poised to be the US National Championship Team in the very near future. These two teams gave the crowds at the Kingdom Cup tournament in Kalamazoo during Labor Day weekend another intense battle in the finals for the Cup crown. The Dragons started the tournament facing the Battle Creek Fire with a 5-2 victory Friday evening. At their last preliminary game Saturday morning, the Dragons faced the Kingdom Cobras and won 9-1. The semi-final game against the Ole team was a goal-for-goal battle in intense heat Sunday afternoon. The Dragons were able to pull ahead in the second half, winning 6-4. After a one-hour breather, the Dragons geared up to face their Club counterparts, the Crew Knights. The Crew players from both teams fought hard for the ball and for each goal. The Dragons used every player on the bench throughout the match to make the 6-4 victory a true team effort. After two amazing tournament finals (Crew Cup and Kingdom Cup) against one another, the Crew Dragons and Knights will be an unbeatable team when they merge for 8v8 play. Go Crew! **************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************** CREW CUP VICTORS 08-30-09 The newly formed Grand Rapids Crew Juniors U9 Boys Dragons, coached by Chip Hoebeke and Yolanda Swartz, were the Crew Cup victors on August 30th. The nine member team faced the Caledonia Area Travel Soccer (CATS) U9B team Saturday morning for their first game. It was good preliminary match, with the Dragons winning 7-0. Saturday afternoon, the Dragons matched up against their Crew counterparts, the Crew U9 Knights, and were defeated in a hard fought battle, 1-2. Sunday morning was a new day for the Dragons and they came up on top of the Georgetown Rangers 7-1, which meant they were in the Crew Cup finals Sunday afternoon against their fellow Club team and friends, the Crew U9 Knights. The teams were surrounded by a throng of fans as they battled goal for goal on field 4B at the MVP Fieldhouse. At the end of the second half, the Dragons pulled ahead by one and were able to hold off the powerful and skilled Knights to take the U9 Boys Crew Cup championship. It was a great game for both Crew teams and a wonderful victory for the Grand Rapids Crew Juniors organization to have two teams in the finals.
