Crew U9 Gold Girls: GVSA League Champions U9 1st Division

****10-31-09**** After a long season and several close games, it all came down to the last game to decide the U9 championship. The girls came in to the game tied for first place w/ the Muskegon Lakers, who they just happened to play in their final match. The game was an even match from the beginning, with both teams battling it out for most of the first half. But late in the first half, our girls broke through w/ a late goal to take a 1-0 lead into half time. The Lakers came out strong in the second half, and scored the equalizer midway through, but our girls hung tough. Late in the second half we scored a second goal to re-take the lead, and thanks to some strong defense and a couple of stellar saves by our keeper, we were able to hold on for the win. The win gave us the outright lead in the division, and also secured the championship. Thanks to our girls for a great Fall season, and a special thanks to coach Leo for all your hard work w/ the girls. We are very proud of all of you. **************************************************************************** ****9-20-09:**** Another good weekend of soccer for the U9 girls at the TBAYS Autumn Classic in Traverse City. The girls started the weekend out with a good win over a tough SCOR team 4-2. The next game was against a very strong Vardar team, and with a little help from a sub-par referee, they lost 10-4. The next morning brought another SCOR team, and with a 9-0 win, the girls moved on to the finals where they would meet Vardar again. From the beginning we could tell that this wasn't going to be a repeat of the first game. Our girls came out strong and hung with them through out the entire game. Both teams traded goal after goal in a hard fought, intense game, but in the end we fell one goal short in a 3-4 loss. Both teams left everything on the field, and we are very proud of our girls for a great weekend. Keep up the good work ladies! ******************************************************************** **********8-30-09:****** Girls U9 Gold Wins Crew Cup:*** The girls had a good weekend of tough games, but managed to come out on top. They had hard fought matches between GR Crew Black, GR Crew Silver, and a tough PASS team, and took three wins to make it into the finals where they met the GR Crew Silver team for the second time. The girls came out a little slow in the first couple of minutes, but once they settled in, it was clear they had hit their stride. They scored a couple of quick goals and quickly took control of the game, which ended in a 9-0 win for the championship. They played very well all weekend long, and we could see them progressing w/ every game. Congratulations to the girls on a great weekend, and a nice start to what should be a fun season!
