Allis (June 4, 2005) - Just
8 titles remain to be claimed in the 2005 Wisconsin
State Cup. The semi finals, played today at
the Anderson
Soccer Park in Kenosha
narrowed the field to the 14 final teams which
have advanced to the championship round
tomorrow, June 5th . The morning and early
afternoon games kicked off without a hitch,
but thunderstorms, tornado warnings and dangerous
lightning at the 2:00pm hour caused an hour
and half suspension and subsequent delay of
games.
Once the storm blew through, Mother Nature smiled, bringing on a bright sun and
a soft Lake Michigan breeze to close out the afternoon matches.
The first team to advance to the finals was the Under-13 boys FC Milwaukee Blue
with a sound 4-1 victory over PVYSC Neenah.
A taught match through most of the 1st half, FC Milwaukee found its stride in
the 2nd half and placed itself in the championship round. Mequon SC needed the
golden goal tie breaker to defeat the Madison 56ers in the other semi final.
Madison 56ers had the better of the run of play through most of the game but
Mequon ’s counter attacking style of play finally paid off earning them
a 1-0 victory and a place in the final. Mequon and FC Milwaukee meet in the Under-13
boy’s final at 9:30am.
In the Under-13 girls division, Madison 56ers earned its way to the final through
a 5-1 victory over the Appleton SC Flame. A contentious Mequon SC Red pressed
and pressured FC Milwaukee Blue throughout the match but couldn’t find
the back of the net. FC Milwaukee scored twice in the 1st half and withstood
the Mequon SC pressure for the remainder of the game. Madison 56ers versus FC
Milwaukee Blue in the U13 girl’s final at 9:45am.
Polonia fails to return to the title match in the Under-15 boys division losing
to FC Milwaukee 7-0. Paper Valley Youth Soccer Club (PVYSC) Neenah United found
itself on the winning side of a 2-0 score line and once again in the championship
match.
FC Milwaukee versus PVYSC Neenah at 10:00am : in what should be a thrilling game!
The Under-14 Boys title is wide open. Yahara United Blue routed the Croatian
Eagles 8-1 while FC Milwaukee Blue overcame Mequon SC White in a 1-0 victory.
Yahara and FC Milwaukee square off at 11:30am. This is going to be anybody’s
game and will be entertaining to say the least.
SC Waukesha Freedom bested Brookfield Red 2-0 and FC Milwaukee Blue needed
a 2-1 victory over Appleton New United in the Under-14 girls’ semi finals.
The championship match between SC Waukesha and FC Milwaukee should prove to be
a nail biter kicking off at 11:45am.
High noon features the Under-16 boys’ Madison 56ers versus Yahara-Middleton
Blue. The 56ers cruised to a 3-0 win over the Appleton Mutiny in its semi final
while Yahara-Middleton netted 4 times shutting out Elm Grove Premier, who played
a man down for most of the match and thus squashing Elm Grove’s chance
to claim back-to-back state titles. The Madison match-up ensures no FC Milwaukee
sweep of the 2005 Wisconsin State Cup.
An extremely talented Yahara United Under-17 boy’s team looks to defend
its 2004 (U16) state championship, facing a formidable Brookfield Red U17 boy’s
team. This match will feature creative and attacking offense coupled with exceptional
defensive capabilities and goalkeeping prowess. The 2:00pm feature match looks
to be an instant classic in the annals of the Wisconsin State Cup.
The 8th and final title to be determined will be played between the Elm Grove
Villagers and FC Milwaukee in the Under-19 boys division on Tuesday, June 14th
@ 6:30pm in Elm Grove.
The lone U19 girls’ team, the Chippewa Strikers out
of Eau Claire claim the title by default and are on their
way to Sioux Falls as the 2005 Wisconsin State Cup champion.
